To find out more, I talk with Sonja Lyubomirsky, a psychology professor and director of Positive Psychology Laboratory at the University of California, Riverside and author of The How of Happiness, who led the study review. Q: What about positive thinking and behavior affect people with depression? A: This can occur through "upward spiral". As I wrote in my book, Happiness activities increase positive emotions, but the researchers also showed that positive feelings can thwart the effects of negative feelings.

The second advantage of the activities of happiness is that they increase positive thinking. They can counteract the negative bias by helping us forget about our negative thinking patterns.
