Family dentist began 33 years ago with matriarch

Cosmetic and family dentist Sierra, 4221 Vista Road, Pasadena, is a family affair began 33 years ago when Linda Sierra, DDS, graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of dentistry in Houston.

Sierra's eldest son James, who was born in 1978, graduated from the University of Texas dental school in San Antonio in 2004 and joined the practice of the same year.

This summer, the Sierra-which includes the Patriarch Angel of Sierra, electrical engineers recently-retired at NASA, and three other children Louis,, 39, who lives in Dallas, Andrew, and 28, and Christopher, 22, both of whom live in Houston-celebrated as Christopher was inducted into the community of teeth on the traditional white coat ceremony.

James Sierra, who lives in Friendswood, said the ceremonies, which began a medical school and dental school was adopted by several schools and other health professionals which marked the beginning of the study in the profession.

"Layer symbolically welcomes students to their profession when they began their studies," he said.
